ABOUT STURGEON SANCTUARY

Sturgeon Sanctuary.

Personally, I have worked with sturgeon since the first time I saw one in the 1990s. since then I founded and set up the largest research and development sturgeon breeding facility.

It housed over 450 adult female sturgeon, 1000s of fingerlings from a variety of the eleven species we had on the farm at anty on time. I was able to import these eleven species of sturgeon and sterlet due to contacts in the industry mainly from Europe.

Personally taught the basics of sturgeon husbandry from European sturgeon farmers. However I learnt a lot more through spending over 15 yrs with the sturgeon themselves and so I could tweak and streamline methods to become more efficient at breeding and caring for the different sturgeon I had.

I have visited nearly all European sturgeon farms before I decided to build my own, I was visited by the top UK vets and the more famously known Sir David Attenborough had his staff visit to learn from me and how I do things.

I would  have plenty of open days with visitors from around the globe wanting to see the sturgeon and have a quick chat with me.

As for the farm itself it was a state of the art research and development facility. I had built this from a small tank in my back garden and a handful of small sturgeon.

It grow into a very large venture with no expense spared. With the highest quality food and strict feeding schedule, borehole water filtered through quartz rock some 60 meters down, literally drinkable water is what they were housed in. I recreated seasons that the UK cannot duplicate for the needs of breeding sturgeon. Everything down to the temperature, light type, light amount, to how loud the water was, flow rates, depth and salinity. Every separate room was relevant for bringing up sturgeon from egg to fully grown breeders. This is how I created some of the most beautiful sturgeon seen in the UK to date. â€‹
