Ship Sturgeon (Acipenser Nudiventris)
Ship Sturgeon Latin name Acipenser Nudiventris Maximum size is 4-5ft.
The lifespan of Ship is approximately 50+ years.
One of if not the rarest Sturgeon on the list. Ship Sturgeon has quite alot of names for a single fish including fringebarbel, Thorn Sturgeon and Spinney Sturgeon.
Being one of the rarest fish on the planet these are extremely rare and hard to acquire. They have a distinctive body shape with an arching back almost resemblance of an ship with large sails, hence the name given to this beautiful Sturgeon. A popular cold water species.
Predominantly freshwater but do like brackish rivers that run into coastal waters. Very fast growing with a passive nature makes them excellent company for other garden pond fish such as koi carp and orfe. Sturgeon are generally on the move all the time. Except the Ship Sturgeon, to own one of these fish is to watch it sleep. However that should not deter you from sourcing one as they will bring something unique with thier distinctive appearance, making a great addition to your pond.
